Camping Meet - 9th/10th August, Thirlmere, Lake District
Posted: 30 Jul 2025, 19:07
Howdy fellow Mercians,
The next MMC camping meet will be taking place over the weekend of 9th and 10th August, and for this we will be returning to the mountains. Our destination will be Thirlmere, in the northern part of the Lake District.

We will be staying at the regular haunt of High Bridge End Campsite. This is a particularly suitable site for us, as it's got plenty of space, is happy with groups, and permits campfires. Booking isn't necessary, just turn up as you please, and bring 20p pieces for the shower. You'll need to head here:

Thirlmere is really well located. There's lots of stuff to do locally. Within walking distance is the excellent mutli-pitch crag of Castle Rock of Triermain. Or you could head up onto the Helvellyn Range, walk its length, then drop back down and catch a regular bus back. And Amberside is only a short distance away if you need to stock up.
With a car you can reach places like Borrowdale in 20 mins, Buttermere in 35 mins, the far end of Greater Langdale in 40 mins, and Coniston Water also in 40 mins. I'm a climber, so for me these locations mean access to the mighty crags of Shepherd, Eagle, Gimmer, Dow. But if walking is your bag then all of these crags are joined to grand hills, ready to be explored.
A WhatApps group has been created and all members will have the link. For non-members please contact Huw and request to be added.
Please sign up below.
Thanks,
