21st-23rd March: Newlands Valley Meet
Posted: 12 Mar 2014, 16:58
Mericans,
Your next weekend meet is now officially open for bookings!
The meet takes place 21st-23rd March, there are 16 places available in the Carlise Mountaineering Club owned hut, in the remote and peaceful Newlands Valley, in the Lake District.

The hut itself has rustic charm in bucket loads. Situated approximately 1 mile from the nearest road (cars can be driven to it, down a not too rough gravel track) there is no electricity, and the water comes straight from off the hillside.
However, it's far from devoid of home comforts, a cracking coal fire pot bellied stove soon gets hot enough to glow red, and has the hut at sauna like temperatures in no time at all. Lighting is provided by means of gas lamps, and gas rings are provided for cooking. There is a flushing toilet, but alas no shower.
A map can be found here:

Mountain bikers will enjoy the purpose built trail centre at Whinlatter:

Road bikers can test their determination against the mighty Honister Pass. Honister Pass is also home to one of the only Via Ferratas in the UK, and a slate mine that offers underground tours.
Hikers have plenty of options, with Robinsons, Dale Head and High Spy all easily accessible straight out of the front door of the hut!

The cost for all of this I hear you ask? A mere £8/night.
Sign up here, and DO NOT email Karl (he's on holiday).
