1st/2nd March - Pentrefoelas, North Wales
Hey hey,
....we're the monkeys!
Also, the next Mercian Mountaineering Club meet is now open for bookings.
The meet will take place the weekend of 1st and 2nd March, at Cefn Garw in the village of Pentrefoelas, just before Betws-y-Coed.

Cefn Garw
Outside of the hustle and bustle that is mainstream Snowdonia, this hut offers a more relaxed stay whilst providing access to lesser frequented areas.
Why not explore the eastern side of the Carneddau via the idylic Crafnant and Geirionydd valleys? Just head north on the A470 from Betws, turn left at Llanrwst and then head uphill.
Beautiful Llyn Crafnant
Or take the A470 south west from Betws, into the Dolwyddelan Valley, to explore the south side of Moel Siabod or the old mines above Blaenau Ffestiniog (a great wet weather alternative). Just don't leave your England flag in your car if you park here, unless you like bonfires!
Being outside the busier parts of Snowdnoia, this hut benefits from much cheapness. Fees are only £6pppn. But don't think the hut lack amenities, it has everything you could desire including a local pub.
The local
We currently have 12 places booked, and may be able to get up to 8 more, so it could be a popular turnout.
If you are interested in attending please sign up via the forum or contact me directly.
Volunteers for cooking would as always be appreciated.
Since this is a hut we have not visited before (as far as I know), please take time to read the embedded PDF (on email only). Important items to bring are as follows:
* Pound coins for electricity meter
* Bin bags
* Coal/kindling/matches
* Loo roll
Can I suggest one person volunteers to bring/get these items and that a kitty is taken from all attendees?
The access is with a door code, which will be available at the pub on the Thursday before the meet.
Finally, with regard to the weather, things have settled down a little recently, so fingers crossed. Also, I'll have a word with 'him upstaris' and see what can be arranged.
Over and out,
Karl

Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterward.

Do royalty actually carry money? I think you'll struggle to get any pound coins for the leccy from Kate.
Steve, I'm assuming roll roll is the new rock and roll term for loo roll.

Roland - Could I sign up for food please?
Anyone need a lift? I've space for 2 or 3 extra in the car. Leaving about 7ish.
Note to everyone: there's likely to be snow on the hills still, so please don't forget to bring Ice Axes and Crampons if you want to do high level walks.
If people would like to get some navigation practice in, I can print off some extra maps. You'll need to bring a decent compass (Silva type 4 or similar, with a roma scale for 1:50,000 and 1:25,000.
