I’m pleased to announce that the next MMC camping meet will be taking place over the weekend of 28th and 29th June, in sunny Anglesey.
Our destination will be Church Bay, in the NW corner of this beautiful isle. A super relaxed campsite with loads of space, we’re just 12 minutes walk down to this superb beach.

This meet caters really well for climbers, with Holyhead only 25 mins drive away, and offering a great range of climbing. ‘Holyhead mountain’ is actually a very amenable series of single pitch buttresses, mostly slabby in nature, that catch the sun all day long. It’s a great place for beginners or those just starting to lead, a really relaxed venue.
Also on Holyhead are the infamous and intimidating sea cliffs of Gogarth, which currently do have some access restrictions due to bird bans. However, not far down the coast is Rhoscolyn, which has a tonne of unrestricted routes.
But of course it’s not all about the climbing. Anglesey has some lovely scenery, and has the added advantage of being really quiet. There’s a tonne of beaches to be discovered from the coast footpath, so the walking is undeniably great. Plus for cycling it’s modestly flat.
And don’t forget, if you truly need your mountain fix, then it’s a fast road south into Eryri (formerly known as Snowdonia) National Park in just 45 mins.
Admittedly, the campsite is at the more basic end of the scale. Facilities consist of a tap, plus a small toilet/cold shower block in the corner of the field, although it’s only a short walk to the ‘posh’ part of the camp site where there are hot showers. But that’s pretty much it. However, it does have the advantage of being very relaxed (i.e. no bedtime) and having loads of space. We visited here in May 2023, when we had 27 Mercian’s attend in what was a most memorable meet. And no-one complained about the accommodation!
It’s not the kind of place that has a sign, so please use the dropped below:

It would be wrong not to mention the pub, the imaginatively titled Church Bay Inn, just up the hill at the back of the village, but still walkable from the camp site. The views from the garden alone make it worth a visit. Plus there’s a cafe next to the beach itself, although I recall it closing early.
If interested in attending please sign up below. I will co-ordinate with the Arwin the farmer dude, and he’ll likely ask me to collect cash from everyone for when he comes round in the morning. If it’s not changed then it’s £10 per tent per night.
A WhatsApp group will be organised and sent out via the MMC chat. Any non-members should contact Huw for the link.
Here’s hoping for good weather.
